Dr Carlo Palmieri BSc, MB BS, PhD, MRCP

Dr Carlo Palmieri graduated in anatomy and medicine from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, University of London. He undertook his general medicine training and medical oncology training in London. During this time he completed a Ph.D. funded by Cancer Research UK at Imperial College London. He is currently a senior lecturer and consultant in medical oncology at Imperial College and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. His main research is focused on the molecular mechanisms that determine sensitivity and resistance to endocrine therapy in breast cancer, as well new drugs aimed at treating breast cancer. He leads ‘Project Agatha’ a prospective data collection project of all breast cancers diagnosed at Imperial College. Dr Palmieri is actively involved in developing and setting up translational and clinical trials, and is currently the principal investigator of a number of studies.
Dr Palmieri has published widely in peer reviewed journals. He is a member of the International Cancer Collaborative Group (ICCG) steering committee and the NCRN breast cancer metastatic sub-group, he has acted as a medical advisor to the National Institute for health and clinical excellence, and is a reviewer for a number of national and international organisations including Italian Association for Cancer Research. He regularly facilitates medical sessions at survivorship courses run by the Maggie’s centre, London.
