Marcella OBrien was one of the founder members of LOC, a key member of the group which created LOC as it is today. She was responsible for recruiting the clinical team, setting standards for patient care, and, working with her colleagues, developing our systems and processes.

Marcella initially trained and qualified as a nurse at St Vincents Hospital, Dublin, following which she studied for degrees in Sociology at University College Dublin, and a BSc in Oncology at St Lukes Dublin. She then worked in Saudi Arabia setting up a medical unit including an oncology wing before returning to the UK to work at The London Bridge Hospital. Further studies included two years at The Tavistock Institute, with a degree in Psychology, specializing in people with chronic illness.

For eight years she was at The Lister Hospital, becoming their Oncology Nurse Manager, while at the same time also studying for her Diploma in Management from the University of Greenwich
