Professor Paul Ellis, one of LOC’s founder partners, talks here about how we organise ourselves to sustain and improve these standards, and how the process of clinical governance actually works.

Maintaining Standards

Clinical Governance

The whole purpose of setting-up LOC in the first place was to deliver the highest standard of cancer care possible. Protecting and maintaining this level of clinical excellence is therefore central to everything LOC does.

Every LOC clinician is committed to this objective, and all participate in the internal processes which ensure that standards are met. The most important governance body in LOC is the Clinical Governance Committee, chaired by Professor Paul Ellis. This reviews treatment protocols, latest research developments, patient experience and comment, and, should there be any, patient complaints. Every meeting is minuted in detail and actions and accountabilities followed-up rigorously. The documentation relating to this process is reviewed closely by The Care Quality Commission.
